You knit the shawl from tip to tip.
At the beginning, you increase one stitch at the start of each right-side row. At the end, you decrease one stitch at the end of each right-side row. The edge is worked in I-cord.

The construction of the shawl is clearly shown in the charts. The first and last three stitches are worked together in the I-cord.
